COVID-19 update 21/1/2021

Dear patients

We would like to update you on some urgent but hopefully short-term changes.

As you may be aware the country and the NHS is at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic and Cornwall is no exception.

The COVID-19 infection rates for Cornwall are the highest that we have seen since the start of the pandemic.

As well as supporting our patients, our colleagues are also being affected. All this is happening while we are offering the largest vaccination programme the NHS has ever delivered.

We want to deliver the vaccines to you and your families, as quickly and safely as possible.

To help us do this national guidance has advised us to reduce all non-urgent work.

We will continue to offer urgent and emergency appointments.

But we need your continued support and ask for your patience during this challenging time.

Please do not contact the surgery for routine appointments or check-ups if at all possible.

Alternative ways you can seek medical advice and treatment include the NHS website, and your community pharmacy, who can offer expert information and provide medication for many conditions.

We continue to be available for urgent appointments.

Other services like cervical smears, baby immunisations and urgent dressings will continue as normal

If your condition is life-threatening always call 999. For urgent but not life-threatening you can always contact 111, if your usual GP is not available. 111 provides advice and can also direct you to a local service and will let them know you’re on the way.

As we continue to work together to try and keep everyone safe and well and follow national lockdown rules, social distancing and Hands, Face, Space guidance, you may experience delays in other areas of health and care.

Anyone due to have an outpatient appointment at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust can check on waiting times and if you are concerned about the time you are waiting for your appointment please call the Elective Care hotline on 0800 0357777

We appreciate that this is a challenging time but please be reassured we are all working as hard as we can to look after you.

By following lockdown rules together and with your continued support to help us continue to look after our most poorly and vulnerable we will make it back to the path of normality.

Thank you for your help and understanding.
